The Navy Diver Memorial

The Navy Diver Memorial commemorates all Navy Divers who are no longer with us.

It honors their devotion to our country, to the United States Navy, and to one another.

By choosing this profession, they knowingly accepted its dangers: the risk of combat for some, the risk of the sea for all, and the ever-present danger of working beneath the surface in cold and darkness, where a loss of air or orientation could quickly become fatal. Sometimes death was instantaneous.

Sometimes it was not.

There were also risks that were less understood and impossible to foresee. Years — or even decades —later, the effects of hazardous substances, some inhaled andothers absorbed or ingested, could emerge as devastating, life-robbing diseases.

Yet they still chose to become Navy Divers. They did not regret that choice. They were proud of it.

We Honor Them.

HONORING SALVAGE DIVERS, EOD, SEALS, SEABEE UCT, AND USMC COMBAT DIVERS

Years ago, former members of Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit One, Reserve Detachment 419, accepted the challenge of creating this memorial. Through years of planning, perseverance, and hard work, they brought that vision into being.

Donations are still being accepted to help cover the remaining expenses associated with the memorial’s final placement at Miramar National Cemetery.
